House GOP budget talks collapse

Thanks in part to lobbying of GOP moderates, the House has cancelled a vote on the budget plan until after Easter. Pilosi was exstatic. Delay's replacement House Majority Leader John Boehner, has egg on his face.

This is a major setback for Republicans, who must be feeling the heat for cutting education and programs for the poor while boosting military spending, granting tax breaks to the rich, refusing to set an exit time for Iraq, and running up record debts.

Get out the popcorn--things are starting to get interesting.

House Budget Vote

I just got an email from the folks at Sojourners Magazine urging me to contact me to contact my Representative about the House budget vote tomorrow. I urge Bluenecks to oppose this budget, using this language from the email:
"As a person of faith, I am calling to urge Rep. Duncan to vote against the Budget Committee's budget resolution. It forces cuts in nutrition aid, health care, education, training, housing, and other essential services. Its funding is so low that vulnerable people--infants, struggling workers, the elderly--will lose needed services. In short, it is out of touch with my values.  Please support efforts to restore funding for domestic programs."
Even the bipartisan Center on Budget and Policy says the House bill shelters big drug and managed care companies, cutting instead from programs to help the poor.
